Ron Harper, Cogent Power

Ron Harper, President, Cogent Power

Ron Harper, P.Eng. is the President of Cogent Power Inc, in Burlington Ontario. Cogent Power Inc. is the market leader in North America for the supply of steel cores and magnetic materials and value engineering for electrical power devices like transformers, motors and generators. 

Ron is a professional engineer, and has worked with Cogent since 1995. Ron has been working with his organization on its lean journey since 2004, and has taken a highly personal role in leading the company and its teams to create a self-propelling lean organization and culture.

Ron has been working in manufacturing for the past 25 years. Most of those years have been in senior leadership positions in marketing, engineering, operations and general management. 

Ron is an active leader within the manufacturing community, and is currently engaged with some leading organizations. Ron is on the Executive Board of the Association of Manufacturing Excellence, a leading non-profit organization for the use of lean/continuous improvement philosophies within manufacturing and enterprise excellence.

Ron is also a highly active board member of The Centre for Skills Development and Training, in Canada, and regularly advises on local government policies and initiatives with Next Generation Manufacturing. 

As part of the AME Executive, Ron is a leading member of the strategic initiative for People Centric Leadership. This movement is intended to educate leaders to engage and lead teams in a manner to maximize job satisfaction and fulfillment, while creating significant value in businesses; and is a part of the “Triple P” progression of business leaders – People, Planet, & Profit.

A true veteran sales leader with 40 years of industry experience and 20 years of ERP experience, Dave’s in-depth knowledge of business development and implementation in software and service delivery, has enabled him to develop complex business solutions for some of the largest service organizations, in both the private and public sectors.

In Dave’s current role as Regional Sales Manager with SYSPRO Canada, he is responsible for developing ERP solutions for manufacturing and distribution organizations and for growing new accounts in Western Canada. In his current role, Dave has been instrumental in growing SYSPRO’s Western Canadian market and developing a new client base in both the Alberta and Saskatchewan markets.

Previous to SYSPRO, Dave held various senior sales positions for large service organizations including, NTT Data and CGI where they developed some of the largest public sector ERP and human services projects in the industry. During his twelve years with CGI, Dave was responsible for implementing a large-scale systems integration for the US government and closed over $300 million in new business. Dave’s team was also responsible for branding and growing CGI into the US Southeast local government sector—growing the business from $7 million to $40 million per year in revenue.

Dave’s range of experience in business development, project delivery and IT, as well as his capability as a proven sales leader, allows him to develop solutions for even the most complex business challenges. This ability, plus his knack of fostering strong relationships with customers, prospects and colleagues has earned him a solid reputation in the industry.
